Should We Drop The Idea
Of Balance For Harmony?
As we move into the fall season that takes us into the holidays, balance comes up again. What does balance mean to you? Is it even possible? Or is harmony a better choice of words? I feel this is an important distinction…not just a matter of semantics.
You know I adore words and am very particular which words I use. I learned this early on in my conscious living training. Words carry energy…in their purest form…but even more importantly in what a word means to YOU. What baggage and connotation has your life experience put on the words you use?
Is your definition of balance like this picture…so precariously positioned that almost anything can tumble it down?
A seagull landing on the wrong spot will tip it all over…is that how you feel as you attempt to balance your life? Are you driving yourself mad trying to make sure every person and aspect of your life gets an equal and ‘fair’ share of you?If this is where you go when you imagine a ‘balanced life’… I invite you to let it go! Step off the scales and the tediousness of it all and contemplate harmony.
What does harmony mean to you? For me it is a flowing…at any one time one aspect of my life has my attention and focus…then at others, another part does. Is it time for the trumpets to blast or the flutes to trill? Brought together as a whole it is beautiful music, but if we tried to play the notes over each other it is a mess.
If you desire to switch to the harmony model, how do you begin? As with everything, begin with presence; just notice where you are putting your attention. You can create a list first and then maybe a pie chart to get an accurate picture.
Notice where you are asking yourself, I really wish I could…go for a walk, have more creative time, spend a quiet evening or two with the family, what are your wishes? These are asks from your soul wanting to be part of your beautiful life.
What is taking too much of your life…even if it is good…like the kids, work, homemaking, spouse, your personal time (well, almost none of us has that out of harmony on the too much side, just saying), etc.
Now take this awareness to your Spirit and ask for guidance. In what ways can you bring in more of what you desire and let go of where you have made things all consuming? Knowing there will be times when creativity strikes and you must follow the muse until it moves away to rest and then you will go into full on cleaning the house mode. Knowing there are ebbs and flows will soften the habit of seeking balance that has you feeling guilty over dirty dishes or several ‘fend for yourself’ dinners in a row, then feeling resentful that you ‘have’ to take care of others when the muse is calling!
You can do this!! Go gently, softly, bravely into the energy of harmony…I am right here with you!!
